Activity #1: Putting Myself In the Shoes of Others
- Choose one of the women who you read about today and imagine yourself in their shoes during a particular struggle or triumph.
- Write a reflection and/or draw an image that you “see” related to what you learned.
- Sample sentence starter: “I am in the shoes of Barbara Gomes Beach when she ________ and I am feeling ________ because_______…._________
Activity #2: Connections | Ideas | Impact of Role Models
- Choose one of the women who you read about today and share any connections or ideas.
- Sample sentence starter: “I made a connection with Collette Phillips because ________. I now have an idea that I can ________ because_______…..”
Activity #3: Question Everything | What’s on your Mind?
- Choose one of the women who you read about today and consider what questions you might ask her if you had a chance to meet. And/or what questions do you have about her “story”? (challenges, struggles, triumphs, victories).
- Sample question starter: “After learning about Benaree Wiley, I would ask her about _____________ I’m curious about this because _______________…..”
Activity #4: Mind Movies of People | Places | Challenges | Triumphs
Sharing Option
- Choose one of the women who you read about today and make a mind movie of her in a particular place, or facing a challenging time or celebrating a special victory. Draw your image(s) and then share a brief written description.
- Sample sentence starter: “I made a mind movie of Berthe Gaines in her hometown of ________. My picture shows how hard________ was for her but how she fought through it. Or, my image shows her celebrating________ after years of _______.
