ACADEMIC COACHING
VISION
- Miller Academy Coaching was founded by Gretchen Miller while teaching at Milton Academy in 1996.
- Gretchen is a graduate of BC's Lynch School of Education, and Harvard Graduate School of Ed. In 2021, she rejoined Milton Academy's Faculty and currently teaches Reading and Writing in the Lower School.
- While building Miller Academy Coaching, Gretchen spent 20+ years working in local media from the Boston Garden to Boston Magazine from Inc. Magazine to MC Communications from Plum TV to styleboston TV.
- In 2013, Gretchen's husband Chris Johnson joined the practice, helped to scale it significantly, and became head of math tutoring while also handling the company's finances.
- Chris is a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology and has 20+ years of sales and marketing experience in technology research as the former EVP of Sales at AMR Research in Boston.
- The Johnson's 18-year-old daughter Annika (Nika for short), who will be studying business at Bentley University this fall, is Co-Founder of the family's female empowerment coaching platform.
- Miller Academy now has two distinct initiatives:
- K-12 Academic Coaching (SchoolHood)
- K-12 Empowerment Coaching
- SisterHood, BrotherHood, NeighborHood programming
VISION
- Miller Academy's vision and mantra is to "engage, enlighten and empower" students through small group or one-to-one academic coaching:
- @ School: for those that allow on-site tutors
- @ Home: after school, on weekends, over the summer
- @ Work: for employers and employees with K-12 children or relatives
- @ Play: at "after school" clubs where homework help is offered
- As a (tiny) coaching company, Miller Academy is intentionally a for-profit (LLC) that does business to do good.
